What’s a Stinky Pete?

I looked up the name Stinky Pete on the Internet in order to inject some educational background information and also just for the sake of having a halfway decent blog post this time. As it turns out, one of the search results reveals that it’s the name of some kind of hillbilly Toy Story 2 character voiced by Kelsey Grammer. The other search result revealed a definition that I won’t talk about in this post because I simply can’t ;) Check it out on the urban dictionary website and you’ll see what I mean.

In any case, I’m here to provide an overview of the Stinky Pete tent in picture and in writing so that you can find out if this product can do what it is that you need it to do for your specific camping trip or outdoor event. There aren’t a whole lot of explanations and even less pictures on the Internet that can really provide you with a clear answer to the question "is this product right for me or not?"

Assembling the tent
The tent comes in a heavy duty duffel style carry bag that measures 30” x 6” x 6” and weighs 10 pounds. We know already that it’s too heavy to bring on a hiking trip. These shower tents are designed to stay at the campsite and provide a private shower/change room at the end of a day of hiking.

It took me about 30 minutes to assemble the whole thing but that could just be me, I always take my time completing any task. I got stuck on step #5 that specifies inserting the poles into the hubs that look like elbows. I found this step a bit confusing at first but once I figured out how it works the rest of the setup was a breeze. Really, it’s just like setting up a standard tent so I won’t bore you with every single detail of the assembly. After putting it together once I think it should take no more than 5 to 10 minutes to assemble it again.

Below is a scan of the assembly section of the owner’s manual

After setting up the Stinky Pete tent I noticed a few important key points that stand out and that are worth mentioning:

1- There is a hook at the top of the tent from which you can hang a camping shower bag of 2.5 gallons. As you can see from the pictures I hung a shower bag full of water and the tent did not collapse. This is important because not all shower tents can withstand the weight of a solar shower bag.

2- The second important point:
very stable under windy conditions as long as you’re using the stakes that come with it. Once they’re planted in the ground it won’t fly away. I forgot to do that the first time and the tent fell on its side as it was pretty windy outside.

3- Third, there is a mesh self draining floor that helps to drain the water while keeping your feet clean and the bugs out.

4-
It’s 84” high in the center! High enough for the green giant.

Conclusion

Based on my test, I found the Stinky Pete to be a solid camping shower tent considering the quality build for such a low price. Retail price is $59.99; other high-end models can go up to $200 for approximately the same features so, all in all, the Stinky Pete is a good value.

If you do any kind of activity that doesn’t require you to carry this shower tent on foot like fishing, sedentary camping, car camping or going to outdoor festivals this is a recommended purchase.
Note that you can also use it as a toilet tent or portable changing room.
